Sculptures

These sculptures begin to investigate different ways of representing perspective and how this can change one's perception of space and time. Making sculptures based on the paintings enables me to twist, bend and distort the illusionary, multi-perspectival views of the paintings in the physical, three-dimensional space of the sculpture. This question is leading me into difficult, unknown territory.

A new paradigm of 'curve-linearity' ensues where perspective warps, lines interpenetrate and illusionary space is compressed or expanded, forming constellations of endless possible compositions as the sculptures are viewed from varying angles.

Perspectival and architectural planes merge and cut across or weave in and out of one another. Where gravitational rules appear disrupted, so are illusionary normatives; they become more dynamic so that buildings appear to move, possibly forming unforseen structures with a new Baroque sensibility. Motion appears frozen in the sculptures, as if an open-structural flow pattern of water, smoke or fire could be modelled in combination with perspective to reconfigure perspectival conventions?

A canal view is one we can normally imagine sailing down or walking through, where normal rules such as gravity exist. Exploring the 'illusion' of this view within the sculptural, twisted shapes and spaces, gravity no longer appears to work downwards but in all directions. The fluid transformation of one architectural field into another that exists in the paintings is further disrupted in the sculptures as buildings appear to blend, the rules of the paradigm shift further into unknown territory, defying conventional ideas and perceptions of space, perspective and time.
